Watch the cast of Avengers: Endgame have fun on set in the film’s official gag reel. After a few months, Marvel Studios’ culminating film becomes the biggest film in the world, pushing past James Cameron’s Avatar which held the title for 10 years. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Endgame picks up after the catastrophic events of Avengers: Infinity War, putting the focus on the core Avengers after Thanos handed them their first ever real defeat. But despite the somber beginning of the film, and it’s eventual bittersweet ending, the actors didn’t miss the chance to goof together while working on it.
Infinity War’s primary cast is much bigger as Thanos’ deadly snap had yet to wipe out half of life in the universe including several prominent Marvel heroes. Despite this, Endgame features the biggest gathering of characters in two separate occasions - first, the epic showdown between the Avengers and the Mad Titan and his minions, and second, Tony Stark’s funeral. So the cast took in the opportunity to mingle with each other and just soak up the experience on filming the highest grossing movie to date.
In light of the upcoming Home Entertainment release for Endgame, some of the bonus clips have surfaced online, including the movie’s gag reel. Running for a little bit over a minute, the video features a string of fun bits including Robert Downey Jr. botching his take; Don Cheadle improvising; Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans providing meta commentaries; and Chris Pratt blabbing on set among others. Watch the clip below shared on YouTube by Marvel Studios Movies:
Endgame was filmed in conjunction to Infinity War, so in total, the Avengers sequels spent a year in principal photography. Throughout that time, the cast went in and out of filming, and considering the number of high profile actors in these twin movies, one can only imagine how difficult it was to ensure that everybody who needed to be on set at every specific point in time was there. On top of that, there were also reshoots and additional photography which made scheduling much more complicated. Fortunately, the producers pulled it through. Not only was the film a hit worldwide, critics generally liked it.
Given its long filming schedule, stamina of everyone involved was more likely a major issue. The Russos famously posted an image of them exhausted when they wrapped up on Infinity War. Despite the rigorous work, this gag reel shows that everyone remained to be in good spirits throughout the entire filming session. MCU veteran actors in particular looks like they had a blast, and that’s very important since some of them have officially bowed out of the franchise after Avengers: Endgame.
