In just the second film in the DCEU, Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder made the decision to put the universe on a fast track by including every member of the Justice League in some capacity in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This decision took the focus at certain points of the movie away from the superhero dual that audiences wanted, and instead had Lex Luthor be involved in revealing Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Unlike Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman (who was given a substantial part in the movie itself), the other three were relegated to quick video footage that Luthor had collected showcasing their meta-human abilities.
The reveal of these videos were certainly not the way many people expected three other members of the Justice League to be introduced. Outside of the “Knightmare” sequence that introduced The Flash, the other two only appeared in these brief clips. The looks at all three characters were quick, but now a close up look at the full designs for Flash and Cyborg’s costumes have been revealed.
Ironhead Studio is one of the most prevalent costume design companies used in Hollywood, with them being no strangers to superhero movies. They were used for Batman V Superman to design costumes for Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, plus Flash and Cyborg. They have now posted a photo on their Instagram page showing off their work on Flash and Cyborg.

It is always nice to see some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into these mega-blockbusters, and this is no exception. The costumes are clean and very detailed, but it is a bit surprising that Warner Bros. had these made for this film in particular. The only time Flash is shown in this costume in Batman V Superman is in the “Knightmare” sequence, and even then it is only from the chest up. The suit is clearly using VFX to open the mask and reveal Miller’s face, so it would be interesting to know whether or not this was actually commissioned to be worn by Miller in this film.
The same can be said for Cyborg’s costume. He is just being rebuilt in his scene for Batman V Superman, so a full costume such as this seems unnecessary to produce. Plus, Ray Fisher is exclusively doing mo-cap for Justice League so there is no need for a physical suit now, and possibly ever. These could have simply been designed as a larger point of reference for the VFX department, but it is not necessarily needed. Regardless of people wearing these suits or not, it does show closer looks at how these characters looked in the movie, and possibly going forward as well.
