As reported by multiple outlets, the rumor originated with YouTuber  TheGamingRevolution in a video where he claims to have knowledge of confidential information regarding the upcoming first-person shooter.

Among a slew of details, TGR claims that Infinity Ward is shooting for around 150 players in MW’s battle royale mode and that the current map is “two to three times the size of Blackout’s” battle royale map.

He continues by laying out more key differences for the mode, including the possible inclusion of zombies. According to TGR’s anonymous sources, Infinity Ward has toyed with the idea, but the developer has not solidified anything at this point in development.

Allegedly, the mode will diverge from Blackout in other important ways as well. Attachments will come pre-attached to weapons, and there will be “different tiers, or colors, of weapons,” making it similar to the weapons system found in Fortnite.

Of course, some fan reaction to the news of a purported battle royale mode in what the developers have called a “realistic” Modern Warfare experience without zombies has been extremely negative.

To ease those frustrated with the mode and/or its inclusion, TGR provided some more information about what Infinity Ward plans to bring to the FPS, including fan-favorite mode, Gun Game:

As with any rumor, it’s best to take everything laid out here with a massive, massive, massive, grain of delicious salt. Infinity Ward has not officially confirmed any of the information proposed here

When asked on Twitter about the leak, IW’s Studio Art Director Joel Emslie had nothing to say on the matter, instead opting for an appropriate “no comment” meme from The Office:

As of this writing, it has been confirmed that Spec Ops mode will make a return in 2019’s Call of Duty. We also know that crossplay between next-gen and current-gen systems is definitely a thing.

Only time will tell if these newest rumors will become reality.
